I was so worried that nursing wasn't going to work for us when I was pregnant because I didn't know ANYONE at the time who had nursed past 3 months. It was something that I so desperately wanted to do, so I armed myself with information prior to delivering. I think that, along with my crazy stubborn streak, really helped us be successful. It didn't hurt that I had a little guy who was a champion eater right from the beginning, either.

It always bothers me when people tell me that they intend to formula feed, even though I know that it is their decision. I guess I always just wonder why... It feels like our society has so bought into this idea that we need to feed our babies manufactured milk. It honestly feels to me like formula feeding has almost become a norm. I don't know a single person who has not switched to formula at some point in their baby's life. I have no intention of ever switching our little guy to formula because I just don't think it's as good for him and I also just REFUSE to support the formula makers and the formula industry.
It makes me soooooooo angry how many free samples we were sent when I was pregnant. I ended up donating them all to the food bank because I just didn't want them in my house.
I know that formula was made for a reason and that it is legitimately needed in so many cases and that we are actually quite lucky it exists so that babies who don't have mommies, or whose mommies really can't breastfeed, at least have some options. But it bothers me that for so many people it's just the go-to.

Wow, that was quite a rant!! I just wanted to really thank you for this blog. I really identify with you and feel the same way in a lot of respects.

Except that I did find labour very painful!!! hahaha :)

Thanks again for the very thoughtful and thought-provoking post.

(from Connie on WB)Conniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06343520210021477680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4042682259204892466.post-538921533078033322009-09-17T17:08:34.428-07:002009-09-17T17:08:34.428-07:00Wow! How refreshing!
Thank you so much for the ...Wow! How refreshing!

Thank you so much for the post. I am struggling so much with the "shoulds" these days. I am really enjoying breastfeeding and right now DD is needing to nurse to go to sleep. She is waking up 3-4 times a night wanting to nurse. I know she is hungry but yet there are many people around me who are shocked to hear she she isn't "sleeping through the night" Crying it out, formula, not co-sleeping have all been suggestions to "fix" this problem. Deep down I know that we are doing everything just right for us.

I also have trouble understanding why some women do not attempt to breastfeed. I know intellectually that everyone has the right to parent exactly how they wish but emotionally I don't understand this one.

All this to say, thanks so much for the post. It was excellent. Keep that boob juice keeping on...:)

This is Bojangles from BB.Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14745981379926833608noreply@blogger.com
